Costa Mesa is set to welcome a new ice cream destination as Wanderlust Creamery opens its latest outpost on Friday, September 13. This location marks the brand’s eighth establishment in California, solidifying its growing presence in the state’s vibrant culinary scene.

Founded in 2015 by Adrienne Borlongan, Wanderlust Creamery is known for its rotating selection of globally inspired ice cream flavors. The new shop will feature signature scoops such as ube malted crunch and Vietnamese rocky road. Additionally, customers can indulge in seasonal offerings like chè Thái and Malaysian white coffee, which reflect the brand’s commitment to diverse flavor profiles.

Located at 3033 Bristol Street #133, Costa Mesa, CA 92626, the shop will celebrate its grand opening by offering a complimentary scoop of ice cream to the first 200 customers. The excitement will increase for the initial 50 arrivals, who will also receive exclusive merchandise from Wanderlust Creamery. To further entice visitors, the shop is running a buy-one-get-one (BOGO) deal for all customers on both September 13 and 14.

Wanderlust Creamery’s expansion comes at a time when the local culinary landscape is also experiencing a surge in new food offerings. Recently launched is Kreung Kitchen, a Cambodian barbecue pop-up by Sam Oum, specializing in grilled meats, including pork and beef skewers infused with flavors like lemongrass and lime leaves. The pop-up debuted in January 2024, contributing to the city’s rich tapestry of dining experiences.

In addition to ice cream and Cambodian cuisine, the local culinary scene is thriving with other events and new menu items on the horizon. Pijja Palace will introduce new menu items, including a paneer Parm sandwich and piri piri fries, set to launch on September 16. Moreover, GYOPO is hosting a Chuseok brunch fundraiser on September 15, which will honor Mina Park and Kwang Uh of Baroo. Tickets for this exclusive event are priced at $400 per person, with proceeds dedicated to funding GYOPO’s programming initiatives.

As fall approaches, Costa Mesa and its surrounding areas will be hosting several food events that bring the community together. Notable events include Solvang Danish Days, set for September 20-22, and the Taste of the Santa Ynez Valley, taking place from September 26-29. These events not only celebrate the region’s culinary diversity but also provide a platform for local vendors to showcase their offerings.

Art and culture are also an integral part of Costa Mesa’s identity. An exhibition by Phung Huynh is currently on display at the Carolyn Campagna Kleefeld Contemporary Art Museum, running from September 12 to December 12. This exhibition focuses on the experiences of Vietnamese and Cambodian refugees, articulated through portraits featured on pink doughnut boxes, highlighting important cultural narratives.

With the opening of Wanderlust Creamery, Costa Mesa continues to evolve as a vibrant food and arts hub, attracting residents and visitors alike with its unique offerings. The anticipation surrounding the new ice cream shop reflects a shared appreciation for innovative culinary concepts that resonate on a global scale.
