Lastly, Chapman University’s Hilbert Museum of California Art recently achieved noteworthy recognition by winning a local architecture award for its 2024 expansion. The museum received a Merit Award from the Orange County chapter of the American Institute of Architects, which commended the museum’s design excellence. This expanded structure spans 22,000 square feet and was designed by Johnston Marklee. Notable features of the museum’s façade include a giant floating panel and a glass-tile mosaic titled “Pleasures Along the Beach.” This mosaic was relocated from a former bank building. Earlier in the year, the museum garnered attention as one of the best new architecture projects in Southern California according to the Los Angeles Times, and in 2021, it proudly won the “Los Angeles Times Best of the Southland” Award in the “Best Museum” category.
