A view of Triangle Square retail complex in Costa Mesa

News Summary

Costa Mesa’s Triangle Square will be highlighted in an upcoming episode of the Travel Channel’s American Dream, airing Friday. Hosted by Holly McDonald, the segment will showcase various attractions including the new Westwood Coast steakhouse and popular dining spots. Triangle Square has undergone significant renovations since its purchase in 2017, marking a revival for the retail complex. The episode will explore the rising trend of Western-themed entertainment in Orange County and celebrate the area’s growing reputation for dining and entertainment.

Costa Mesa is set to gain national attention as its Triangle Square, a 200,000-square-foot retail complex, will be featured on the Travel Channel’s popular show “American Dream.” The segment, hosted by local resident Holly McDonald, will air on Friday at 7 a.m.

The upcoming episode will highlight various attractions within Triangle Square, including the newly built upscale Western-themed steakhouse Westwood Coast, which is scheduled to open in early July, as well as popular restaurants and entertainment hubs such as Prince Street Pizza, La Vida Cantina, and Cafe Sevilla.

Since last fall, Holly McDonald, an agent at Compass Real Estate in Newport Beach and a former producer for HGTV’s “House Hunters,” has been developing episodic features focused on local neighborhoods and cultural hotspots for “American Dream.” Past segments have spotlighted locations like the trendy milkshake bar, the Straw, and areas within Costa Mesa’s South Coast Metro.

The Travel Channel segment will particularly focus on the rising popularity of Western-themed entertainment in Orange County. The general manager of Westwood Coast, Michael Ruiz, is expected to discuss this phenomenon, which includes activities like country line dancing that are attracting more visitors to the area.

Triangle Square has undergone considerable transformation since it opened in 1992. Following its purchase by new owners in 2017, Triangle Square has seen significant renovations aimed at revitalizing the complex. Although initially impacted by changing shopping behaviors during the COVID-19 pandemic, the complex is currently benefiting from increased occupancy rates and renewed interest.

The property’s manager, Charity Dahlke, indicated that the Travel Channel feature is a testament to the progress made at Triangle Square. After battling high vacancy rates in past years, the complex has successfully transitioned to a fully occupied retail space.

Westwood Coast promises to offer an elevated dining experience, combining hearty traditional fare with authentic country entertainment and live music. The restaurant’s menu will include premium steaks and innovative dishes made from seasonal ingredients. Additionally, it will showcase a private dining room accommodating 14 guests, a mechanical bull for entertainment, and a bar featuring over 100 varieties of bourbon. Patrons can also join the members-only Smoked Spirit Society for exclusive benefits.

The restaurant will be open for dinner Tuesday through Sunday and will serve brunch on weekends, offering guests a unique combination of dining and entertainment options.

As Triangle Square continues on its path of revitalization, the upcoming Travel Channel feature marks a significant milestone, showcasing Costa Mesa’s growing reputation as a vibrant destination for dining and entertainment.
