Orange County’s construction sector has reported impressive growth, with the largest companies generating over $10.5 billion in local project revenue. A 7.3% increase has been observed compared to the previous year, indicating a robust recovery. McCarthy Building Cos. leads the list, boasting a 63% revenue bump, while several emerging firms also made their mark. The positive trend supports ongoing job creation and economic stability in the region.
Orange County has experienced significant growth in its construction sector, with the 32 largest construction companies in the region generating over $10.5 billion in local project revenue for the 12 months ending April 30. This represents a 7.3% increase compared to the previous year, indicating a robust recovery and continued investment in construction activities across the county.
Among these companies, 16 reported growth in revenue. Noteworthy contributors to this upward trend include KPRS Construction Services Inc. from Brea, Snyder Langston from Irvine, and Moorefield Construction Inc. based in Santa Ana, among others. Several firms have made a mark on this year’s list, including Innovative Construction Solutions from Costa Mesa and Consolidated Contracting from San Clemente, both of which reflected impressive revenue gains.
Leading the pack is McCarthy Building Cos., with its headquarters located in Newport Beach. The company achieved a remarkable 63% increase in revenue, reaching $2 billion, making it the largest commercial builder in Orange County. The company is confident in its growth trajectory, emphasizing continuous investment in sectors like healthcare, commercial, education, and public works.
This year, the former top company, Hensel Phelps, has fallen to second place after experiencing a 7.2% decline in revenue, which totaled $1.4 billion. Clark Construction has maintained its third-place position, with a considerable revenue increase of 23%, totaling $1.2 billion. KPRS Construction Services ascended to fourth place with a revenue increase to $1.1 billion from $877 million in the previous year.
Other companies that made significant revenue leaps include Consolidated Contracting, which improved its position from No. 26 to No. 17, reporting a striking 52% revenue increase to over $96 million. This demonstrates the fluctuating dynamics of the market in which smaller or previously lower-ranking firms can greatly enhance their standings through effective project management and strategic growth.
C.W. Driver, based in Pasadena but operating in Anaheim, reported a steady performance, maintaining its position at No. 10 with an 18.2% revenue increase, totaling $247 million. Such revenue growth among various companies highlights the overall positive trend in Orange County’s construction market.
This year, several newcomer companies made the list, including R.D. Olson Construction, Slater Builders, Uprite Construction, Sukut Construction LLC, and Ram Construction LLC. Their presence in the ranking emphasizes the growing demand for construction services and the opportunity for new players in the market.
As the construction industry experiences this growth, market leaders like McCarthy are focused on completing important projects such as the Hoag Irvine facility and CHOC Southwest Tower within the next year.
