Newport Beach

Four suspects were arrested on Sunday following a shooting incident near the Newport Beach Pier, which resulted in injuries to a teenager. The incident occurred around 7:40 p.m. near the intersection of Oceanfront and 23rd Street, prompting immediate police response after numerous reports of gunfire.

According to the police reports, the shooting ensued from a confrontation involving two men. During the altercation, one of the suspects brandished a handgun and fired three shots, striking a male victim once in the foot. Fortunately, the victim is expected to recover from his injuries.

Authorities received the initial emergency call reporting the sound of shots fired and a person in need of medical assistance. Upon arriving at the scene, police quickly apprehended one suspect while others fled in a vehicle. The quick-thinking officers enacted a manhunt for the remaining suspects, aided by a Huntington Beach Police Department helicopter that helped track the vehicle down.

The vehicle, which contained all four suspects, was located near the 55 Freeway at Fair Drive in Costa Mesa. Law enforcement successfully arrested the suspects without further incident. A handgun believed to be the weapon used in the shooting was also recovered by the police during the apprehension process.

Among the arrested was David Pennington, an 18-year-old male facing charges of attempted murder. Two other 18-year-olds were also taken into custody for various charges, including conspiracy and possessing a loaded firearm. Additionally, a 17-year-old suspect was arrested, although their identity has not been revealed due to legal restrictions concerning minors.

The Newport Beach Police Department continues to investigate the shooting incident and is actively seeking further information from the public to shed light on the circumstances leading to the violence. Officials are urging anyone who may have witnessed the event or has relevant information to contact them.
