Newport Beach kicked off a week of festivities to celebrate Independence Day with a series of events on July 4th, including a patriotic parade and one of Southern California’s largest fireworks displays. The celebrations, which started early in the day and continued into the night, brought together families and friends from across the region in a spirit of community and patriotism.

The festivities began at 9 a.m. with a crowd-favorite patriotic parade on Balboa Peninsula. Participants showcased their spirit by decorating bicycles, scooters, and skateboards, making for a colorful and lively procession. Following the parade, the Old Glory Boat Parade, organized by the American Legion Yacht Club, attracted a variety of decorated vessels sailing through Newport Harbor.

Later in the day, families flocked to Newport Dunes for a range of activities, including inflatables for children and water sports rentals. The venue also hosted live music featuring The Class Band, creating an enjoyable atmosphere. The day culminated with a spectacular fireworks show at Back Bay starting at 9 p.m., touted as one of the largest in Southern California.

In addition to Newport Beach, several other cities in Orange County also organized elaborate Independence Day celebrations. Huntington Beach opened its festivities with a Surf City 5K Run at 7 a.m., followed by the 121st annual parade at 10 a.m. Fireworks over the ocean brought the day’s activities to a close at 9 p.m., delighting onlookers on the beach.

Meanwhile, Laguna Niguel hosted its fireworks show at Laguna Niguel Regional Park, featuring live music from 6 to 8 p.m., recommending a $20 fee for the viewing experience. The Great Park in Irvine introduced new family-friendly activities ranging from 4 to 10 p.m., ending the day with fireworks and a drone light show at 9 p.m.

In Dana Point, the traditional fireworks display took place at Doheny State Beach, choreographed to music and starting at 9 p.m. San Clemente Pier featured a fireworks show at the same hour, reminding spectators to arrive early due to limited parking and seating.
