Community members engaging in discussion at the Newport Beach Historical Society meeting
Douglas Westfall, an esteemed author and historian, will be the featured speaker at the Newport Beach Historical Society meeting on May 19. The event, scheduled from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Fun Zone upper level, will allow attendees to gain insights into the history of Newport Beach. Participants can also purchase Westfall’s book, ‘Corona del Mar- My Kind of Town.’ This event aims to enhance understanding of local history and foster community engagement.
Newport Beach – Douglas Westfall, an accomplished author, publisher, and educator, will be the featured speaker at the Newport Beach Historical Society meeting on May 19. The event is scheduled to take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Fun Zone upper level back building, located at 600 E. Bay Ave., Newport Beach.
Westfall, who has authored 50 titles covering a wide range of historical topics, is recognized for his contributions to the understanding of American history. His accolades include the prestigious National Daughters of the American Revolution History Award received in 2016 and Congressional recognition awarded in 2017. During the upcoming lecture, Westfall will provide insights and share stories about the history of the Newport Beach area.
For attendees interested in Westfall’s work, there will be an opportunity to purchase his book, “Corona del Mar- My Kind of Town.” This event aims not only to educate visitors about local history but also to facilitate discussion and interest in the region’s historical significance. Coinciding with the Newport Beach event, the 21st annual Rossmoor Woman’s Club Spring Outdoor Living and Garden Tour is set for Sunday, May 18, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This highly anticipated tour will showcase six to seven gardens and yards, emphasizing popular design trends. Features such as potted plants, pools, bars, and outdoor kitchens will be on display for attendees to explore and enjoy.
Tickets for the garden tour are priced at $20 and can be conveniently purchased online at the Rossmoor Woman’s Club website or at the Arbor Village, located at 10651 Los Alamitos Blvd., Los Alamitos, on the day of the event. In addition to the garden tour, ticket holders can participate in an outdoor marketplace at Arbor Village that includes complimentary refreshments and live music performed by local musician Danny Kolano.
The marketplace will also feature a book signing by local author Chrysteen Braun, as well as opportunities for guests to purchase plants, outdoor décor, and raffle tickets for various gift baskets. All net proceeds from this annual garden tour will benefit local charities and support college scholarships for students at Los Alamitos High School. This initiative highlights the community’s commitment to giving back while also celebrating local artistry and green living.
