Costa Mesa Launches ‘Jurassic Fright’ Pumpkin Patch Attraction

Costa Mesa’s newest attraction, the ‘Jurassic Fright’ pumpkin patch, has officially opened its doors at Hana Field, offering a unique Halloween experience for families. Created by Tanaka Farms, the attraction features life-size, roaring animatronic dinosaurs set within a corn maze shaped like a dinosaur itself, making it a standout event for the fall season.

The exhibit, developed by Anthony Marcotti, showcases a lifelong fascination with dinosaurs. Marcotti, who also owns the Camp Store at Carlsbad State Beach, began his dinosaur display at the coastal campsite, initially branding it as “Jurassic Beach.” He later expanded the display to San Clemente before bringing his vision to Hana Field.

This year’s ‘Jurassic Fright’ features around 30 dinosaurs spread across two areas, with 18 dinosaurs prominently displayed at Hana Fields. Attendees can expect to encounter famous species such as the T-Rex and Stegosaurus arranged in 11 themed zones. These zones include captivating names like Volcanic Apocalypse, Cornfield Carnage, Haunted Island, and Lost Temple of Bones.

Family-Friendly Activities

The ‘Jurassic Fright’ attraction is designed to create a spooky yet family-friendly atmosphere. While it features bones and a bit of an eerie vibe, it steers clear of traditional Halloween gore, ensuring it is suitable for all ages. In addition to the dinosaur display, the pumpkin patch offers a barnyard experience where attendees can learn about farm animals. Visitors can also enjoy activities including mini ATVs, arts and crafts, pumpkin blasters, live music, and food trucks.

Admission to the pumpkin patch includes access to the dinosaur maze, the pumpkin patch itself, and various entertainment options geared toward children. On weekdays, Hana Field operates from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays through Thursdays. Ticket prices during this time are $25 for adults and $14 for children aged 3-12, while children 2 and under are free. Weekend hours extend from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. with increased admission costs: $31 for adults and $21 for children.

Important Information for Visitors

Tickets for the Jurassic Fright event should be purchased in advance, particularly during weekends when attendance is expected to be high as Halloween approaches. While the pumpkin patch includes unlimited wagon rides, additional charges apply for certain activities such as feeding animals and enjoying the Cow Train rides.

While there is a pumpkin patch featuring dinosaurs located in northern California, Marcotti emphasizes that the Jurassic Fright attraction is unique due to its maze design. This event combines elements of corn, pumpkins, educational experiences, and dinosaur-themed entertainment to create a holistic and engaging fall experience for families.

The overarching goal of Hana Field is to establish itself as a venue that offers fun, accessible, and memorable seasonal traditions for families throughout the year. As the season unfolds, the ‘Jurassic Fright’ pumpkin patch promises to deliver an unforgettable adventure for visitors of all ages.
