News Summary

Jerri Rosen, founder of Working Wardrobes, has passed away at 79. Known for her dedication to aiding those facing challenges, she transformed the nonprofit into a key resource, helping over 135,000 individuals secure employment through essential services. Friends and colleagues remember her as a charming figure deeply committed to empowering others. A celebration of her impactful life is scheduled for June 2025.

Irvine, California – Jerri Rosen, the founder of Working Wardrobes, passed away on May 14, 2025, at the age of 79. Rosen was a dedicated advocate for those facing challenges such as domestic violence, homelessness, drug abuse, and incarceration through her founding of the nonprofit organization 35 years ago.

During her three decades as CEO, Rosen transformed Working Wardrobes into a significant resource in Southern California, helping approximately 135,000 individuals secure employment. The organization’s first initiative, the Day of Self-Esteem, was launched in 1990, aimed specifically at supporting victims of domestic violence.

Working Wardrobes operates with an annual budget of $8 million and employs a team of 40 staff members, relying heavily on the commitment of around 2,000 volunteers. The organization provides essential services, including offering professional attire, career workshops, and employment services to its clients. Each year, Working Wardrobes donates about 500,000 clothing items and operates several locations, including a donation center in Irvine, a career center in Santa Ana, and multiple retail outlets in California.

Bonni Pomush, who took on the CEO role in 2021, characterized Rosen as a “force of nature,” highlighting her unwavering belief in the potential of individuals to effect change. Under Rosen’s leadership, the organization expanded its reach to serve communities across Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, and San Bernardino counties.

Rosen was diagnosed with ovarian cancer shortly after her retirement and engaged in a courageous battle with the illness for over two years. Despite her health struggles, she remained actively involved with Working Wardrobes, staying informed about the organization’s ongoing initiatives and support efforts.

In addition to her leadership at Working Wardrobes, Jerri Rosen authored a book titled “Pants and Skirts on Fire: The Story of Working Wardrobes,” which chronicles the journey of the organization and honors the contributions of her supporters. The book serves as a testament to her dedication to uplifting others and the lessons learned throughout her career.

Friends and colleagues remember Rosen as a charming and supportive figure, often drawing attention with her engaging personality and strong interpersonal skills. Her impact on the nonprofit sector and the lives of many individuals will be felt deeply in the community.

A celebration of life for Jerri Rosen is planned for June 2025, where those who were touched by her work and spirit will gather to honor her legacy. The work she began at Working Wardrobes continues to empower individuals to overcome barriers and achieve their employment goals.
