Fountain Valley

A fatal multi-vehicle accident on the San Diego (405) Freeway in Fountain Valley resulted in one death on Sunday. The collision occurred around 10:35 a.m. in the southbound lanes near Euclid Avenue, involving a white Honda SUV and three sedans, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene, and a representative from the Orange County coroner’s office arrived at 11:02 a.m. A Sigalert was issued shortly before noon to close the No. 1 and No. 2 lanes of the southbound freeway, causing significant traffic disruptions as authorities worked to clear the area. The exact duration of the lane closures remains undetermined.

This crash is described as a developing story, with further updates expected as more details emerge. At this time, no additional information has been released regarding the circumstances leading up to the accident or the identities of those involved.

In a separate incident, another multi-vehicle collision in Fountain Valley occurred late Monday night, resulting in at least one confirmed fatality. This crash took place near the intersection of Ellis Avenue and Magnolia Street just after 10 p.m. It involved a pickup truck and a white SUV, with the pickup truck reportedly overturning during the incident.

The police detained an individual at the scene, who was seen handcuffed while seated on a curb. Multiple injuries were reported from this incident, and several individuals were transported to a nearby hospital; however, their conditions have not been disclosed.

The identity of the deceased from the Monday night crash has yet to be confirmed. It remains unclear whether the individual was a passenger in the pickup truck or the SUV. The crash has been linked to a police pursuit of an arson suspect, identified as Timothy Bradford Cole.

According to police reports, officers were responding to a report of an arson incident on Arches Court, where Cole allegedly set fire to a bush at a residence. Upon locating him driving a white Dodge Ram, officers initiated a brief chase, which ultimately led to the collision at the intersection as his vehicle crashed into a white BMW X3.

Tragically, a 25-year-old woman from Huntington Beach, who was a passenger in the BMW, was pronounced dead while en route to a trauma center. Two other occupants of the BMW are reported to be in critical but stable condition, while Cole sustained serious injuries that are not life-threatening.

The aftermath of the crash has led to road closures in the vicinity, affecting nearby Roch Courregas Elementary School. The Fountain Valley Police Department urges anyone who may have witnessed the accident or has pertinent information to come forward to aid in the ongoing investigation.

As these incidents unfold, both the community and authorities remain on alert, seeking answers and safety amidst these tragic events. The CHP and local law enforcement are committed to uncovering further details and ensuring that justice is served appropriately.
