Firefighters on the scene of a three-alarm industrial fire in Costa Mesa, working to extinguish the flames.
A major three-alarm fire erupted at an industrial building in Costa Mesa, requiring a large response from local fire departments. Fire crews quickly identified the fire’s source in a storage area on Cadillac Avenue. The blaze escalated, necessitating additional support from nearby departments. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as the building was unoccupied at the time. The aftermath sees an ongoing investigation into the fire’s cause, while the damaged structure has been labeled unstable.
A three-alarm fire broke out on Sunday, June 15, at an industrial building in Costa Mesa, prompting a significant response from local firefighting teams. The blaze was first reported to dispatch at 5:15 p.m. on Talbert Avenue near the Santa Ana River, escalating quickly as firefighters arrived on scene.
Upon arrival, fire crews identified the fire’s source to be an on-site storage area located in the 3500 block of Cadillac Avenue. This area, containing multiple delivery box trucks and a large stack of pallets, was engulfed in flames. Firefighters noted that the fire began to penetrate the main structure shortly after their arrival.
Approximately 45 minutes into the operation, a second alarm was issued, leading to a third alarm that required additional assistance from departments in Huntington Beach, Fountain Valley, and the Orange County Fire Authority. In total, 15 fire units collaborated to extinguish the fire, managing to bring it under control by 6:51 p.m..
Following the extinguishing of the flames, firefighters remained at the site throughout the night to monitor for any potential hot spots and ensure the area was fully secured. Across various vantage points, local residents reported seeing plumes of smoke rising prominently near the 405 Freeway.
The industrial building, located at 3595 Cadillac Ave., housed three businesses: an electrical supply company, a wholesale furniture business, and a gym. Fortunately, no individuals were present inside the building when the fire broke out, and there have been no reported injuries in connection with the incident.
Fire officials declared the structure unstable after the incident, leading to an immediate red-tag designation to prevent unauthorized entry. These safety measures were taken due to significant damage to the building, including critical collapse or burning through of the center of the roof and compromised sections of the overall structure.
In the wake of the fire, Costa Mesa Fire & Rescue has initiated an investigation into the cause of the blaze. This investigation will involve the examination of camera and drone footage, as well as reports from eyewitnesses who were present during the incident. The findings from this investigation will help determine the factors contributing to the fire.
As cleanup efforts continued, Cadillac Avenue remained closed overnight, allowing teams to carry out both cleanup and investigative measures effectively. As of now, the exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and officials continue to work towards uncovering the details surrounding this incident.
The scale of the response by local fire departments underscores the challenges and dangers associated with industrial fires and the commitment of emergency responders to safeguard both public safety and property.
