Newport Beach – Sixteen-year-old singer-songwriter Alexis Silva is set to release her debut full-length album on August 1, 2023. This young artist, who attends Corona del Mar High School, has been crafting her music in the wake of personal challenges, including a significant medical diagnosis.
Silva began her musical journey through choir and musical theater, later moving on to songwriting as a means of self-expression. At just 13 years old, she recorded her first professional song, which she described as a transformative moment in her young career. Today, she expresses that the most gratifying aspect of her music lies in its ability to resonate with those who have encountered similar hardships.
In March 2023, Silva received news that she had developed an adrenal gland tumor. Initially, doctors feared the tumor could be cancerous, which prompted a whirlwind of uncertainty and fear. During this tumultuous period, she turned to music as a form of healing and solace. On the day of her surgery, she released the powerful single “The Fight’s Not Over Yet”, which serves as a testament to her determination to confront adversity.
Silva continued to channel her experiences into her music, leading to the release of subsequent songs such as “Backseat Driver” and “Dirty Windows”. These songs reflect various emotional moments during her medical journey. On July 4, she launched her latest single, “Proof of Life”, which further emphasizes her resolve to overcome life’s challenges. Through her lyrics, she articulates a strong desire for life, showcasing her determination to endure mental and physical struggles.
Beyond her musical endeavors, Silva has transformed her personal trials into advocacy efforts for children battling cancer and life-threatening illnesses. In May, she became the first teen ambassador for the Children’s Oncology Support Fund at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. As an ambassador, Silva organized a fundraising event for the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles Walk and Play event, leveraging her platform to raise awareness and support for child healthcare.
In pursuit of her mission, Silva founded the Fight’s Not Over Yet Foundation, dedicated to supporting children’s healthcare initiatives. She has also established a club at her high school currently boasting over 40 members, facilitating community outreach and fundraising for her causes. To date, her philanthropic efforts have generated over $11,000 for the Hyundai Cancer Institute at the Children’s Hospital of Orange County, where she received treatment.
Silva stresses the importance of peer support, emphasizing the positive impact of children assisting other children through shared experiences. Her compelling story and music have garnered attention from key industry figures, including renowned Grammy Award-winning producer Damon Elliott. Elliott was pivotal in producing “The Fight’s Not Over Yet” and introduced her to his mother, esteemed singer Dionne Warwick. Warwick, in turn, shared Silva’s inspiring narrative with notable artist Billy Ray Cyrus, who later sent a heartfelt video message to her during her hospital recovery.
Additionally, Silva has had the opportunity to meet Cyrus in Nashville, where he expressed interest in featuring her on his forthcoming album, “Book of Broken Dreams,” and potentially including her in his next tour. Her debut album will comprise seven songs, each one encapsulating her story, particularly focused on her challenges related to her diagnosis and eventual recovery.
As artists and fans alike await the release of her upcoming album, Silva conveys immense pride in her work, recognizing it as a summation of her journey. She looks forward to sharing her music and experiences with the world, ultimately aiming to inspire others facing their own battles.
