News Summary

Assemblymember Diane Dixon has successfully moved 10 bills to the State Senate as part of her legislative agenda. All bills received unanimous support in the State Assembly, showcasing her commitment to enhancing government transparency and efficiency. Notably, her bills include provisions for parenting foster youth and establishing regulations for E-bikes. As she campaigns for reelection, Dixon emphasizes the need for reducing excessive regulations and improving state governance, while also facing political newcomer Dom Jones in the coastal 72nd Assembly District race.

Newport Beach – Assemblymember Diane Dixon (R-Newport Beach) has successfully advanced 10 of her bills to the State Senate as part of her 2025 legislative agenda. This achievement ties her for first place among Assembly Republicans in legislative success this year, with all her bills receiving unanimous support in the State Assembly.

As of the House of Origin Deadline on June 6, the California Legislature voted on more than 900 bills. Dixon’s legislative package focuses on enhancing government transparency, accountability, and efficiency, reflecting her commitment to improving state governance.

Among the notable bills in Dixon’s package is Assembly Bill 349, which seeks to assist parenting foster youth by indexing infant supplement formula to inflation, set to take effect in 2026. This bill is supported by Mary’s Path in Orange County and marks the third consecutive year Dixon has introduced it.

Additionally, Assembly Bill 484 mandates the California State Bar to report on the potential efficiency gains available through the adoption of a uniform bar exam, while Assembly Bill 1356 requires reports from drug and alcohol programs that experience a death in care, accompanied by action plans aimed at preventing future incidents.

Further, Assembly Bill 1239 aims to provide updated data on human trafficking arrests and victimization. This is crucial as California has not seen a comprehensive Department of Justice report on the subject since 2012. Assembly Bill 965 proposes regulations on E-Bikes, including a prohibition on sales to individuals under the age of 16.

Another significant legislative measure is Assembly Bill 426, which seeks to protect airspace for first responders by banning civilian drone operations during emergencies. Assembly Bill 392 establishes legal protections against the non-consensual recording or sharing of explicit media involving minors. Meanwhile, Assembly Bill 1272 prohibits the use of Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV)-related terms and logos in website domain names, a step taken to protect consumers from impersonation.

Dixon, who represents the 72nd Assembly District—including Seal Beach, Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, Laguna Beach, Aliso Viejo, Laguna Hills, Laguna Woods, and Lake Forest—is a pragmatic businesswoman and former mayor. She has also co-authored Assembly Concurrent Resolution 76, which recognizes May as Small Business Month and honors local small businesses in her district.

In addition to her legislative efforts, Dixon emphasizes advocating for small businesses against excessive regulations, focusing on reducing taxation and cutting burdensome requirements. She is currently campaigning for reelection in the coastal 72nd Assembly District, facing political newcomer Dom Jones, who is prioritizing gender equality and community-focused initiatives.

Despite differing campaign platforms, both candidates agree on the critical need to replenish California’s rainy day fund and promote transparency in state spending, issues that resonate with constituents across the region. The legislative session is scheduled to conclude on September 12, 2025, setting the stage for further discussions on these important topics.
