News Summary

Newport Beach is preparing for a vibrant celebration of Independence Day, featuring a range of activities over the long weekend. Events will include a bike parade, a boat parade themed ‘Founding Fathers’, and the highlight, a Fireworks Extravaganza. Various family-friendly activities will cater to all ages, promising a joyful commemoration of the nation’s birthday with community gatherings, food, and entertainment. Other cities in the area will host their own festivities, ensuring a lively celebration across the region.

Newport Beach is gearing up for a vibrant celebration of Independence Day with a lineup of exciting events scheduled for the long weekend from July 4-6, 2025. This year’s festivities promise an array of activities designed to commemorate the nation’s 249th birthday, with fireworks, parades, and community gatherings set to entertain residents and visitors alike.

On July 4, the Peninsula Bike Parade kicks off the day’s activities at 9 a.m. Participants will gather at 36th Street Park and parade down Balboa Boulevard to Channel Place Park, where a free festival featuring carnival games and food will take place from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Following this, the Mariners Park Independence Day Parade will commence at 10:30 a.m., specifically for children’s bike riders. Unlike the Peninsula event, this parade will not have a festival associated with it.

As the day progresses, the Old Glory Boat Parade will begin at 1 p.m. in Newport Harbor, themed “Founding Fathers.” Hosted by the American Legion Yacht Club, this parade will recognize the best-decorated boats with awards. Later in the afternoon, at approximately 5:35 p.m., residents can enjoy a special Fourth of July Coastal Flyover by the Condor Squadron, providing a thrilling aerial display over the beaches.

The highlight of the evening will be the Fireworks Extravaganza, co-sponsored by Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort, starting at 9 p.m. Entry is free for Newport Beach residents who present valid identification; however, non-residents will incur a parking fee of $50.

Additional Celebrations in the Area

Newport Beach is not the only city planning Independence Day activities. The City of Fullerton will host fireworks at 9 p.m. after a car show beginning at 9 a.m., featuring food, contests, and entertainment throughout the day.

In Huntington Beach, the morning will start with a Surf City 5K Run, leading to a parade and concluding with fireworks over the ocean at 9 p.m. Mission Viejo will also celebrate with a Street Faire beginning at noon, followed by fireworks at 9 p.m.

Meanwhile, Tustin is set for an annual celebration kicking off at 5 p.m. with live performances followed by fireworks at 9 p.m. A range of miscellaneous events will occur across Orange County, including a free gathering in Santa Ana at Centennial Park starting at 5 p.m., featuring live music and vendors, with fireworks scheduled for 8:45 p.m.

Family-Friendly Activities

Communities can look forward to family-friendly entertainment, including food trucks, live music, and various activities catered to all ages. Visitors are encouraged to bring dogs on leashes to outdoor events and festivities.

Celebrating Independence Day is a time-honored tradition in the United States, commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, by the Continental Congress. The first official celebration took place in Philadelphia on July 4, 1777, during the Revolutionary War, and firework displays have since become a key aspect of the holiday. Independence Day was subsequently designated a federal holiday in 1941, cementing its status as a significant occasion in American culture.

As Newport Beach prepares for a festive and memorable weekend, residents and tourists alike can take part in honoring the nation’s history while enjoying a sense of community and celebration.
